Christ Has Set You Free

Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,* and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. 4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. 7 You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is. 11 And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased. 12 I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off! 13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

In verse 1 what is it we have been set free from? (the bondage of the law)

In verse 4 what is this fallen from grace? (it is taking our eyes off of faith in Christ and looking back at the law)

In verse 6 what is it that matters? (all that matters is faith wotking through love)

In verse 9 what is the leaven? (it is looking back to the law and trying to gain something by it.)

In verse 10 what is Pauls attitude toward these brethren? (he is confident in them, in the Lord)

In verse 11 what was Paul not preaching? (he did not preach circumcision which is a part of the law) Why? (because then they or we would be debtors to the whole law)

In verse 11 what would stop if Paul preached adherence to the law? (the offense of the Cross)

In verse 12 how did Paul feel toward those who tried to bring people back into bondage to the law? (he wished they would cut themselves off)

In verse 13 what should we not use our liberty for? (an opportunity for the flesh) What opportunity is the flesh looking for based on this exhortation and warning from Paul? (it is looking to the law for justification)

Finaly what is it that fulfills the law? (LOVE)

What is it throughout all human history that defines Love? It is God the ALMIGHTY ONE becoming a man JESUS CHRIST to fulfill the law in perfect obedience to it for us. Becoming the sacrafice for OUR SIN and LOVINGLY and JOYFULLY going to the Cross and raising again on the third day. This is LOVE!!
